LAKHIMPUR: Ahead of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, a massive cleanliness drive to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi was initiated in Lakhimpur district on Sunday, responding to the clarion call made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As part of the 'Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyaan', Lakhimpur district administration initiated the cleaning drive under the tag of 'Ek Tarikh Ek Ghanta ek Sath' (Ek Ghanta Shramdan) at the Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH) campus in association with the North Lakhimpur Municipal Board and Lakhimpur Development Block Office. Leading the initiative, District Commissioner Sumit Sattawan laid emphasis on Mahatma Gandhi's principle of 'Swachhta' and appealed to the people of the district to come forward to maintain cleanliness and hygiene across the district. "Cleanliness brings changes in the physical and mental states of individuals", the District Commissioner said. North Lakhimpur Municipal Board chairperson Nibenita Dutta, vice chairperson Pranjal Pratim Dutta, Zila Parishad Chief Executive Officer Tripurendra Pator, ADCs Bhaskar Jyoti Borah and Minakshi Perme, North Lakhimpur (Sadar) SDO Cacio Karan Pegu, Lakhimpur Block Development Officer Seuti Doley, LMCH Deputy Superintendent Dr. Nikhil Kakati, social worker Phanidhar Baruah also participated in the cleaning drive. Shramdan events were also held at schools, colleges, railway stations and other public places across the district.
