Gargaon College flags off Youth Employability Programme in Sivasagar

The Department of Commerce, Gargaon College successfully flagged off a 50-day Youth Employability Program (YEP) in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on July 26.

SIVASAGAR: The Department of Commerce, Gargaon College successfully flagged off a 50-day Youth Employability Program (YEP) in collaboration with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on July 26. The programme stems out from the TATA Affirmative Action Programme (TAAP) under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) umbrella.

The objective of the programme is to increase the employability skills among the unprivileged non-engineering graduates. The programme aims at providing free employability training to the candidates of economically weaker sections of the society as it believes that given the right opportunities and learning skills, youths even from socially and economically unprivileged families will be able to showcase their potential, join the mainstream economy and lead a dignified life.

The welcome speech of the event was delivered by Dr Meghali Bora, Head of the Department of Commerce. It was moderated by Anil Tanti, a senior professor of the department. The programme was inaugurated by Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, Principal of Gargaon College. In his inaugural address, Dr Mahanta highlighted the significance of the programme with reference to the present employment scenario and also elaborated on how this programme could be beneficial to the students.

The programme was enriched by the presence of Sunil Baraily, TCS Mobilization Coordinator and Training Engagement Officers, Suryayan Ganguly and Moumita Deb. In their speech, they highlighted the importance of the programme. A good number of students, academicians and teachers from different departments participated in the event. Different queries raised by students were answered deftly by the TCS officials.
