Gargaon College held an online talk on the Importance of financial institutions

SIVASAGAR: A popular talk on the topic 'The Importance of Financial Institutions in the Development of Rural Areas and Formation of Enterprises' was organized by the Department of Commerce, Gargaon College, in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) on July 9.

The welcome speech was delivered by Dr Meghali Bora, Head of the Department of Commerce, Gargaon College. It was moderated by Anil Tanti, senior professor of the department. The online talk was inaugurated by Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, Principal of Gargaon College. In his inaugural address, Dr Mahanta deliberated on the topic with reference to the current COVID crisis and spoke of the necessity of self employment, giving emphasis on the recent microfinance loan waiver initiative of the State.

The programme was also graced by IQAC co-ordinator, Dr Surajit Saikia who highlighted the significance of the chosen topic by referring to the globally acclaimed microfinance model of neighbouring country Bangladesh.

The distinguished speaker on the occasion, Mouchumi Khanikar spoke about the importance of rural development through rural entrepreneurship. The speaker very eloquently highlighted the role of financial institutions in the development of rural areas and the formation of enterprises therein. Besides, she underlined the various forms and ways by which financial institutions are engaged in supporting this form of entrepreneurship.

A good number of students, academicians and teachers across various institutions of the State participated in the event.
