Gargaon College organized National-level workshop on preparation for IIT-JAM

In keeping with its vision to provide strong support services to the students in the sphere of career advancement, Gargaon College organized a two-day national workshop on preparation for IIT- JAM under the aegis of its Career Counselling and Guidance Cell in Association with IQAC, Department of Chemistry, Physics, Botany and Zoology on August 24 and August 26.

SIVASAGAR: In keeping with its vision to provide strong support services to the students in the sphere of career advancement, Gargaon College organized a two-day national workshop on preparation for IIT- JAM under the aegis of its Career Counselling and Guidance Cell in Association with IQAC, Department of Chemistry, Physics, Botany and Zoology on August 24 and August 26. The objective of the workshop was to provide the students a wide opportunity to enhance their knowledge and to gain additional insights to excel in the IIT-JAM examination.

The programme was inaugurated by renowned academician and Principal of Gargaon College, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta. In his speech, Dr Mahanta expressed hope that organizing such workshops will be highly beneficial to the students. He further highlighted the importance of entrance examinations for those who aspire to pursue higher studies in prestigious institutions of India. He also exhorted the participants to make maximum benefit from the workshop and to interact with the resource persons and seek guidance related to the subjects.

Satyam Raheja, Kishan Debnath and Raushan K Thakur were the resource persons who have demonstrated great excellence in their academic career. They are currently pursuing masters degree in the Department of Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, respectively at IIT Gandhinagar, one of the most globalized campuses and a renowned educational institute of India. Raheja has received the prestigious DST-INSPIRE fellowship and has also been a topper in B.Sc Physics under University of Delhi. The speakers from different academic background delivered talks on various strategies and aspects of the IIT-JAM examination and how to meet its requirements. They spoke about the exam format, eligibility requirements, application process, source of study, topics that would help students to score better and guidance to ace the exam.

Additionally, they helped the participants to start the preparation journey effectively and also gave strategic advice to boost their confidence for facing the examination’s difficulties. The programme was moderated by Dr Pakiza Begum, Dr Plaban Jyoti Sarma and Jayanta Sonowal, Assistant Professors of Gargaon College. Pritom Phukon, an alumnus of Gargaon College and currently pursuing M.Sc at IITGN, also extended his valuable help and support in conducting the workshop. The programme turned out to be quite an enriching and interactive one with more than 100 participants. Dr Dilip Kumar Deka, Coordinator of the Career Counselling and Guidance Cell and Head of the Department of Geography, Gargaon College delivered the vote of thanks in which he underscored the importance of the workshop and viewed that such student-oriented programmes need to be carried on a regular basis out for the benefit of the students.
