SIVASAGAR: The historic Gargaon College celebrated its 64th foundation day on Wednesday with a day-long programme. The Principal of the college, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta flagged off the programme by hoisting the college flag. This was followed by smriti tarpan. The smriti tarpan was done by Biman Chandra Barua, retired Professor of Statistics and President of Governing Body, Gargaon College. A floral tribute was paid to the founder members of the institution by the faculties and the teaching staff of the college. The formal meeting of the foundation day celebration started with the College chorus. The meeting was graced by Dharmeshwar Konwar, Member of Legislative Assembly, Sonari constituency, Dr Punyadhar Gogoi, former Principal of Gargaon, and other dignitaries.
Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, the Principal of Gargaon College, in his welcome address, briefed about the glorious journey of the institution which has grown from humble beginnings to its present structure. Dr Mahanta also outlined the historical perspective, growth as well as the future dimensions of the institution. He added that the institution has been achieving meaningful growth in every field and has been putting effort to enhance academic vibrancy with a sense of commitment and responsibility among the students. Talking about the prospective plans, Dr Mahanta said that the college, which is gearing up for its fourth cycle of NAAC assessment, working hard to realize its goal and to grow into a centre of excellence and an institute of national repute.
