Gargaon College, Sivasagar organizes inter-college debating competition

The event began with the College Anthem by the students followed by smriti tarpan by Dr Rina Handique, Vice Principal of Gargaon College, along with the other dignitaries.

SIVASAGAR: The 29th Tanu Konger Memorial All Assam Inter-College Debating Competition was held on Friday at the Academic Gallery, Gargaon College.

The event began with the College Anthem by the students followed by smriti tarpan by Dr Rina Handique, Vice Principal of Gargaon College, along with the other dignitaries. The event then continued with a welcome address by the Principal of the college, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta. In his welcome address, Dr Mahanta enlightened the participants as well as the audience about the significance of the topic. Dr Mahanta also highlighted the glorious journey of the institution which has grown from its humble beginnings to its present structure.

Biman Chandra Barua, former Associate Professor of Statistic Department and president of Governing Body, Gargaon College, also spoke on the occasion. A total of 22 teams from various colleges across the State, including Dibrugarh University, Jorhat Engineering College, Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Cotton University, J.B Law College, Guwahati, University Law College, Gauhati University and Institute of Mass Comunication and Media Studies of Guwahati participated and debated on the topic, 'Social Welfare Schemes of the Government have provided Socio-Economic Security to the people Living Below Poverty Line'.

Anjuman Bharadwaj and Monoj Kumar Barua of Institute of Mass Communication and Media Studies of Guwahati bagged the best team award. The second best team award was grabbed by Sudarshan Sharma and Hemanta Borah of Cotton University whereas the third best team award went to Amal Ankush Borah and Jharna Goswami of University Law College, Gauhati University. Shatabdi Hazarika of Dibrugarh University was adjudged as the best debator of the event. Anjuman Bharadwaj of Institute of Mass Communication and Media Studies of Guwahati won the second best debator award while the third best debator award was bagged by Sunit Sharma of J B Law College, Guwahati. Sarbananda Neog of Assam Agricultural University of Jorhat won the fourth best debator award.
