Gargaon College to host seminar on ‘Writings from North East India: Trends and Issues’

SIVASAGAR: As part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Department of English, Gargaon College will be hosting a two-day ICSSR sponsored national seminar on “Writings from North East India: Trends and Issues” on February 24 and 25. The seminar organized in collaboration with IQAC and Central Library of Gargaon College will be inaugurated by vice chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Prof. (Dr) Jiten Hazarika. The Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar District Aditya Vikram Yadav has consented to grace the inaugural session of the national seminar as the guest of honour.

Prof. Jyotirmoy Prodhani of North Eastern Hill University, Shillong will deliver the keynote address of the seminar. Eminent speakers of the event include Prof. Mridul Bordoloi, Dibrugarh University, Dr Anurag Bhattacharyya, Dibrugarh University, Prof. Bishnu Charan Dash, Assam University, Diphu Campus, Dr Nasmeen F. Akhtar, Dibrugarh University, Dr Arundhati Mahanta, Former Head of Assamese Department, Gargaon College among others.

In a press release, Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, noted academician and Principal of Gargaon College said that the two-day national Sseminar will provide wider scope for deliberations on Northeast writings and the issues that are pertinent to the region. There will be several plenary sessions over the two day seminar focusing on various trends and issues of Northeast writings. Over 70 research scholars and academicians from various institutions will present their papers covering different issues of Northeast Indian writings.
