Gauhati University observes World Cancer Day

Dr Kakati appealed to all the NSS Units to make sufficient awareness on cancer diseases in their adopted villages for early detection and prevention.

GUWAHATI: Gauhati University NSS Cell observed World Cancer Day along with rest of the world through a webinar on Saturday. Inaugurating the webinar, Dipak Kumar, Regional Director, NSS, NER, Guwahati said that World Cancer Day aims to promote awareness on cancer as a public health issue and to strengthen actions towards improving access to quality care, screening, early detection, treatment and palliative care.

Welcoming the guest and participants, Dr RanjanKr Kakati, director of Students' Welfare, GU said that this year's theme marks the campaign "Close the care Gap" which is about understanding the inequities in cancer care and taking actions to make the necessary progress to address them. Dr Kakati appealed to all the NSS Units to make sufficient awareness on cancer diseases in their adopted villages for early detection and prevention.

Speaking on the occasion as resource person, Dr Dinesh Ch Goswami, secretary-cum-CEO, Guwahati Pain & Palliative Care Society explained the cancer symptoms, precautions and different levels of cancer so that early detection may save many lives in the society. Every citizen should join hands to together to eliminate this deadly disease from the society. Dr Rituparna Bora, NSS PO, GU Campus NSS Unit offered vote of thanks. Around 100 NSS Programme Officers and volunteers participated in the meeting, stated a press release.
