Goalpara DC Varnali Deka appeals to candidates to follow Model Code of Conduct

The Goalpara district election officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka on Saturday appealed to all the Assam assembly election candidates to follow the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the submission of their nomination papers.

GOALPARA: The Goalpara district election officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner Varnali Deka on Saturday appealed to all the Assam assembly election candidates to follow the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) during the submission of their nomination papers.

"I appeal to all the candidates to follow the MCC guidelines laid down by the Election Commission of India (ECI)," said Varnali Deka.

The DC further appealed to the voters of the district to come out fearlessly on the polling day and exercise their voting rights. There will be four designated chambers of the returning officers at the DC's office for the four separate constituencies of the district. These constituencies are 36, Dudhnoi ST; 37, East Goalpara; 38, West Goalpara; and 39, Jaleswar constituency.

The returning officers will receive the nomination papers of the candidates from 11 am to 3 pm up to March 19. The two Expenditure Observers of ECI, Mrityunjay Sharma and Sonal Sankavde have already arrived in the district and are monitoring the preparedness of the district administration to hold the election.

Training of the election officers, like presiding and polling officers, is also going on smoothly in the five different venues and 30 centres under the guidance of the District Election Officer-cum-Deputy Commissioner. Following COVID protocol, training is being provided in small groups and with proper use of masks and sanitizers.
