Gokul Pathak memorial meet held by Barpeta Press Club

BARPETA: The memorial meet of eminent litterateur of Barpeta, veteran journalist and follower of Bishnu Rabha, Gokul Pathak was organized by Barpeta Press Club in its premises on Wednesday.

Gokul Pathak breathed his last on May 10. Various noted personalities attended the memorial meet. Former Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, Thaneswar Malakar said, "Gokul Pathak was the like the lighthouse or street light for the society. His works and simple lifestyle inspired the people who came in contact with him. Barpeta has many gems and Gokul Pathak was one of them. He was a versatile genius. He contributed a lot to this district." Malakar opined that the Srimanta Sankardeva Award and the Padma Shri should be conferred upon him posthumously.

Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, Munindra Sarma said, "Gokul Pathak gave us shade like a tree. He was a man blessed with many qualities." The local MLA of Barpeta said that a trust should be formed in his name to help the poor people of the town. All the speakers said that Gopal Pathak did not get much recognition during his lifetime but by preserving his works, his memory could be cherished.
