GOLAGHAT: At a time when the Government of Assam has taken various projects for promoting greenery and to save trees by carrying out massive plantation drive, the Golaghat Municipality Board (GMB) has been seen cutting down trees planted for beautification of the town area.

As per report, in front of a two-storey parking building near Tokani Park of Golaghat town, municipality workers were seen cutting down the trees which had been planted earlier with the objective of beautification of the area. In this regard, when the matter was informed to the Chief Executive Officer of GMB, Mogen Narah, he said that he had just told the workers to clear the tree branches which were obstructing the high mast lighting. But in front of the two-storey parking building area, there are no such lights. So the reason for cutting down the trees is not clear.
