The golden jubilee lecture series of Lakhimpur Commerce College was kick-started with a lecture delivered by speaker Diganta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday in the college.

LAKHIMPUR: The golden jubilee lecture series of Lakhimpur Commerce College was kick-started with a lecture delivered by speaker Diganta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday in the college.

The lecture series was inaugurated by prominent academician Dr Mukunda Rajbangshi, president of Golden Jubilee Organization Committee of Lakhimpur Commerce College along with Dr Muhidhar Pujari, president of the Governing Body of the college, by lighting the traditional lamp. The welcome address was delivered by Dr Lohit Hazarika, Principal of the college and secretary of Golden Jubilee Organizing Committee. Diganta Biswa Sarma delivered a lecture on ‘A Glimpse of the Idea of Ideal Education and Ideal Teacher in the light of Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo’.

In his two-hour long lecture Sarma said that modern education was subject oriented in which a student does not have the right to study the discipline which emanates from his heart and inner self. Quoting Swami Vivekananda and Sri Aurobindo, the Sahitya Akademi winner translator explained the importance of building solid foundations for education. He said if the foundation was strong, it would learn anything in the world.

Diganata Biswa Sarma also explained the various aspects of yoga which is a methodical effort with the objective of self-perfection. He said that potentially within a self could lead to the union with the entire universe.

Quoting Sri Aurobindo, the speaker said that education is the manifestation of self. During his speech, Diganta Biswa Sarma spoke about the essential qualities required for an ideal teacher as espoused by Swami Vivekananda.
