Gossaigaon MLA Majendra Narzary Succumbs to COVID, Assam CM Condoles Death

The 68-year-old BPF MLA was on ventilator. His condition turned critical on Wednesday morning. He suffered a stroke this morning and passed away

Guwahati: Majendra Narzary, Gossaigaon's MLA passed away on Wednesday morning. He was suffering from COVID.

He was undergoing treatment at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital. The 68-years-old MLA was on ventilator. Narzary tested negative for Covid-19 a few days back but continued to be on ventilator. He had co-morbidities like diabetes and hypertension and reportedly suffered a brain stroke on Wednesday morning. He passed away at 5.50 AM this morning.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma condoled the death of Narzary and said he is "pained to learn about the untimely demise of Gossaigaon MLA Majendra Narzary. A dedicated social worker, committed politician and deeply loved, his absence shall be sorely missed." The CM conveyed his "heartfelt condolences" to the family and offered prayers for the "eternal peace of the noble soul".

Assam Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said, "Visited #Gosaigaon #BPF MLA Majendra Narzary in the ICU at #GMCH, where he is kept on ventilation, after the post Covid complications intensified. He is in a critical state now. Have asked the senior doctors to take every possible measures to treat him. I pray for his good health."

Narzary, a former Headmaster was a Bodoland People's Front (BPF) politician and had won the Gossaigaon seat four times. He was part of the Opposition at the 126-member recently elected Assam Assembly.
