Government committed to provide social financial security to women: Minister Atul Borah

Agriculture Minister Atul Borah visited Lakhimpur for the first time after he had been shouldered the responsibility of the Guardian Minister of the district.

LAKHIMPUR: Agriculture Minister Atul Borah visited Lakhimpur on Tuesday for the first time after he had been shouldered the responsibility of the Guardian Minister of the district. During the visit to the district, the Minister formally distributed the one time financial assistance to the bonafide beneficiaries under Indira Miri Universal Widow Pension Scheme.

In this connection, a ceremonial programme was organized in the auditorium of the Lakhimpur District Library. Gracing the occasion as chief guest, Minister Atul Borah distributed the sanction letters of the said one time financial assistance to three beneficiaries. A total of 380 widows of the district have received the financial assistance under the scheme. The Government of Assam has announced the Indira Miri Universal Widow Pension (IMUWP) Scheme for the welfare of the widows in the State. Under this scheme, one-time financial assistance will be offered to the grieving families, where the eligible widows, within 18 to 45 years of age, are provided with a lump sum amount of Rs. 25,000 as immediate family assistance. The scheme is launched to help to support the family tide over the financial vacuum created by the loss of the breadwinner.

In Lakhimpur, the ceremonial programme was held under the management of Chief Executive Officer of the Lakhimpur Zila Parishad, Tripurendra Pator. While speaking on the occasion, Minister Atul Borah said that the Government of Assam had launched the Indira Miri Universal Widow Pension Scheme in view of empowering the women.

"Our government is committed to provide social and financial security to the women of the State," Atul Borah said. In connection, he highlighted the State Government's activities being executed in order to resolve the long-pending inter-State border dispute. In the programme, Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur Sumit Sattawan and Lakhimpur Zila Parishad chairperson Manju Borgohain delivered lecture as guest of honour. The programme was attended by the representative of the Lakhimpur, Bihpuria, Naoboicha and Dhakuakhana MLAs, Lakhimpur BJP president Phanidhar Baruah, North Lakhimpur Municipal Board chairperson Nibenita Dutta, departmental heads of the district, Block Development Officers and members of the public. The Live Telecast of the ceremonial programme regarding ceremonial distribution of one time financial assistance under the scheme held centrally in Tezpur was screened in Lakhimpur.

Later the Minister held a review meeting with the district administration in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office in the presence of Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan. The meeting was held under the management of DDC Manoj Kumar Baruah, wherein the District Officers of the government departments apprised the progress of the implementation of the developmental schemes. The Minister also inaugurated the Model Anganwadi Centre at Kakoi-Rajgarh.
