Government to extend Rs 3 lakh as financial assistance: Health Minister

LAKHIMPUR: Health and Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta called on the bereaved family of Kanmai Patgiri on Saturday. Notably, Kanmai Patgiri lost her life along with her baby in an unfortunate situation during her caesarean operation at Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH) on June 2.

The Health Minister, along with Medical Education Director Anup Kumar Barman and Gahpur MLA Utpal Borah, arrived at the victim's residence at Rangamuri under Gahpur area while returning to Guwahati from Lakhimpur after taking stock of the situation at LMCH. He extended sympathy to the bereaved family on behalf of the State Government and wanted to know in details from the victim's husband and other members of the family about the unfortunate, controversial situation which they faced in LMCH.

On the other hand, the Health Minister declared in front of the media that the State Government would extend an amount of Rs 3,00,000 to the victim's family as financial assistance. "We have issued instructions to the authorities of all medical college and hospitals of the State, including Lakhimpur, to be cautious so that such kind of unfortunate, unexpected incident would not happen in future," the Health Minister added.
