TEZPUR: "The Congress government should have redefined the constituencies in 2007 but did not do so for the interests of a particular community. It is necessary to take action against these constituencies and this process will protect the Assamese society. This is a process of the Election Commission and the State Government is trying to protect the Assamese people through it," said minister Piyush Hazarika while attending a party meeting for booth committee expansion in Tezpur on Wednesday.

Hazarika further said that the Congress and the AIUDF had no character of their own. He said that there was no protest in Assam over the abolition of districts and declaration of subdivisions.
