Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi visits Central Institute of Technology and Bodoland University

KOKRAJHAR: Governor Prof Jagdish Mukhi, who is on a two-day visit to Kokrajhar on December 20 and 21, visited the Central Institute of Technology (CIT) and Bodoland University (BU) on Tuesday to take stock of the functioning of these two premier institutes.

In his visit to CIT in Kokrajhar the Governor held a meeting with the director, deans, and other teaching and administrative officials of CIT. The Director i/c Prof. Hemanta Kumar Kalita made a presentation on 16 years of academic journey of the Institute. He also laid emphasis on the facilities the institute is providing and also the challenges that the institute is facing over its 16 years of inception.

Speaking on the occasion the Governor said that, the quality of research work directly translates to the quality of teaching and learning in the classroom. Therefore, the teaching fraternity of CIT should pay more attention to research which will also lead them to attain a good ranking in the sphere of education. He urged the Director and other stakeholders of CIT to establish an apposite environment for research in campus and asked all the faculties to devote more time in research and bring a good name for the institute as well as for the region.

He also observed that, the formulation of a multidisciplinary approach would certainly give a much-needed push to the implementation of NEP 2020. Therefore the Institute should provide some skill based job-oriented short-term courses.

The Governor also emphasized that the institute should educate the students to become job creators. The institute should facilitate them to come up with innovative ideas for small units as start-ups. The Governor also took stock of the library and lab facilities of the institute.

Later, the Governor held a meeting with the Vice-Chancellor, and other administrative and faculty members of Bodoland University, and assessed the present academic ambience at the campus.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said, "We insist that this university is at the forefront of the implementation of the National Education Policy and hopeful that in the next four to five years this university will be compared with other good universities in the country," the Governor added.

Later, the Governor inaugurated the teachers' quarters and a Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory of Bodoland University at Haldibari site. Deputy Commissioner Kokrajhar, Varnali Deka accompanied the Governor during his visit, stated a press release.
