NAGAON: A grand harvest programme of Boro paddy using mini combine harvester was conducted by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon under Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART) in the Chakalaghat area under Dolonghat block on Tuesday.
The programme was initiated with a brief inaugural speech by Dr Niranjan Deka, principal scientist and head of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon. Dr Deka welcomed all the distinguished guests and other participants to this unique harvesting programme and explained about the objectives of the programme and the benefits of using the mini combine harvester.
Dr Debananda Das, alternate nodal officer, OPIU-AAU, Jorhat laid stress on the commercialization of agricultural machineries. Jyoti Bikash Nath, senior specialist, Communication, IRRI explained the various mechanization methods introduced through APART project and their benefit. Dr Hiranya Kumar Borah, chief scientist, AAU-ZRS Shillongani; Suranjana Bhaswati Borah, senior specialist, GIS & RS, IRRI; APART personnel of KVK Nagaon along with more than 100 farmers representing different blocks of the Nagaon district attended the programme.
Handling and demonstration of the machine was performed by J B Nath, IRRI and Priyanka Deka, project associate, APART, KVK, Nagaon which was followed by on spot harvesting of the paddy (var. Bina Dhan 11) using mini combine harvester. The application of drone in demonstrated paddy field was handled by SB Borah, IRRI.
