TEZPUR: A Grand Harvest Programme of Boro paddy was organized on June 7 by Krisi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur, under Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project (APART) using Combine Harvester at Jurgarh under Gabharu Development Block of Sonitpur district.
Angana Sarma, i/c Head of KVK Sonitpur, welcomed the participants and briefly described the objectives of the programme and Palash Thengal, Project Associate (APART), explained about the cultivated varieties and area covered by Boro paddy in different development blocks of the district.
The programme was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra by lighting the lamp. He has also discussed about the demand for Tezpur Litchi and urged the farmers to plant such litchi varieties like Bombaiya, Bilati and Elachi in their baari system. He also discussed about cropping sequence and encouraged the farmers to grow two to three crops in a year.
Dr Vivek Kumar, Associate Scientist, International Rice Research Institute (IRRI), explained how an agricultural machine can manage time and reduce cost of cultivation of a farmer. Saurabh Srivastab, Marketing Coordinator of Sonitpur district, informed about the paddy procurement centre in the district and urged for paddy procurement in MSP fixed by the Government of Assam.
