TINSUKIA: The fire that broke out at Tinsukia’s Lal Bangla Road on Saturday was due to alleged gross negligence of Assam Gas Company. The Tinsukia Regional Students’ Union (AASU), in a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia, stated that the pipeline gas supply of Assam Gas Company in the residential areas was erroneous and unscientific. Video footage clearly revealed that the fire at Lal Bangla Road erupted from a drain where pipeline gas was laid. Several houses and shop were gutted in the fire.
The memorandum demanded an impartial inquiry and punishment to the negligent officials responsible for loss of public property. It has sought assurance that such an incident should not recur elsewhere in the district. The AASU also demanded adequate compensation for the affected families.
The Assam Gas Company nowhere in the operational area put up any landmark on the surface beneath which pipeline was laid that resulted in accident on previous occasions. There were several instances where pipelines were damaged while laying underground cables.
