Initial reports pointed out that the murders took place in Noonmati of Guwahati and the bodies were disposed of in Meghalaya.

Noonmati police drafted around 1300-page chargesheet in the spine-chilling double murder case in Guwahati. The three prime accused, Bandana Kalita, Arup Deka, and Dhonti Deka, have been named in the chargesheet. The police will submit the chargesheet before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court on May 15. Based on every report and piece of evidence, the chargesheet has been drafted.

The spine-chilling double murder case came to light in the month of February this year when police arrested the prime accused, Bandana Kalita. The trio allegedly murdered Bandana’s husband, Amarjyori Dey, and mother-in-law, Sankari Dey. According to Bandana's statements during interrogation, she was married to Amarjyoti Dey against the wishes of their families. Their post-martial relationship was not cordial, as her husband had relationships with multiple women, and she also had a bitter relationship with Sankari Dey. To get rid of those two, she planned this whole murder with her associates.

Bandana, along with her two associates, suffocated Sankari Dey using a pillow and murdered her using a machete and a rolling pin. The body was chopped into three pieces on July 26, 2022. Later, on July 27, 2022, the three of them left for Meghalaya in Dhonti’s Hyundai Accent vehicle and were thrown into a deep gorge located at village Alieangriat under Police Station Sohra in Meghalaya.
