GUWAHATI: In the midst of ongoing operations against robbers and chain snatchers in Guwahati, two armed assailants on motorcycles seized a gold chain at gunpoint from an advocate of the Gauhati High Court. The incident occurred in the early morning hours on Rajgarh by-lane number 12 in Guwahati.
The victim, identified as Momita Bora, reported that she had been out for her morning walk when she noticed two unidentified individuals on a bike who were consistently observing her. Initially, she did not pay much heed to their presence. However, upon returning home from her walk, one of the miscreants dismounted from the motorcycle and forcibly took her gold chain.
Despite her efforts to apprehend the culprits, one of them brandished a makeshift pistol and pointed it at her chest, forcing her to allow them to escape. During the encounter, the miscreant pushed her, causing her to fall and suffer significant injuries to her leg, wrist, and hand.
Providing additional details about the miscreants, the victim described them as well-dressed individuals who appeared to be marketing representatives. She also noted that one of the miscreants was likely of Assamese origin, while the other was not.
The incident adds to the recent surge in chain-snatching cases in the city, prompting concerns over public safety. Authorities are intensifying efforts to curb such criminal activities and ensure the safety of residents.
Similarly, two individuals riding a motorcycle targeted a woman in the Balipara area of Maligaon, Guwahati city, and forcibly snatched a necklace from her neck on Tuesday. Shaken by the incident, the victim wasted no time and promptly reported the theft to the Jalukbari Police Station, providing details of the crime. Local authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter to identify and apprehend the culprits responsible for this audacious theft.
