GUWAHATI: Psychiatrist Dr Sangeeta Datta, the prime accused in the child abuse case on Thursday created an unwarrated scene during a hearing being conducted at the POSCO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court in Guwahati.

With tensions over her bail escalating, Dr Datta reportedly lost her composure and let off a loud scream, followed by her saying, “If Waliul is granted bail then the court should grant me bail as well.” Dr Waliul Islam, her husband, is another accused in the case and he had been recently granted bail.

Following Datta’s outburst, which caused consternation among both the judge and the lawyer, an already heated atmosphere in the court was further charged up.

Datta later tried to garner sympathy from the media when she said that she deeply missed her children. She said that in a news channel last week she had seen her children calling out for 'Ammajan' and 'Abbajan'. They are the very children who allegedly faced abuse at the hands of Datta, Waliul and their domestic help.

The disgraced doctor went on to say that the school fees for her kids have been paid for the entire year. “If anyone can, please bring the two little ones to school,” she added.

Datta also said that the entire child abuse episode, which occupied the headlines and led to people passing snide remarks, is a conspiracy aimed at them.

"I have faith in God, and I believe that everything will become clear in time,” she further added.

When asked whether she would continue in her profession of treating patients with psychiatric problems after securing bail in the future, she is said to have replied that she would love to continue treating patients as, “most of them pay me visit in the jail too.”

On the question about how she could provide treatment to others while she was herself going through a big struggle, Datta reportedly cited examples of public figures like Deepika Padukone and Anushka Sharma, who have also openly undergone mental health treatment.

She said it is time that physical and mental health is treated by people equally.

Earlier, the charge sheet filed against the doctor couple Sangeeta Dutta and Waliul Islam led to new explosive facts coming to light.

According to the charge sheet, the accused doctor couple had illegally paid for the adopted children, now known to have been originally born to two different women.

The couple had even claimed that minors were twins. However, it was later revealed that the children were born from different mothers at different times.

Another accused in the case, Datta’s assistant named Utpala Bose, had allegedly bought the children from their biological mothers after they were discharged from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) following their deliveries. Bose is learnt to have handed over the two children to the doctor couple in exchange for an amount of Rs. 1 lakh.

After acquiring the children, the accused doctor couple is further learnt to have fake birth certificates made out, which stated that Dr. Sangeeta Datta had been admitted in Guwahati’s Wintrobe Hospital and it is there that she gave birth to the minors on August 6, 2019.

When the police conducted their investigation it came to light that the now infamous doctor Sangeeta Datta had not been admitted at the said private hospital on the date mentioned. Rather, it was established that both she and her husband doctor Waliul Islam were treating patients in the hospital at the time and had prepared the fake documents.
