Guwahati: Covid-19 Reaches Ambubachi Mela 2022 After Pilgrim Tests Covid Positive

Guwahati: A pilgrim who visited Ambubachi Mela 2022 held in Guwahati's Kamakhya Temple has contracted Covid-19.

According to reports, the pilgrim, who came from West Bengal, has been admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). 

The individual was tested on the premises of the Kamakhya Temple, and the results showed him to be Covid-19 positive.

The annual Ambubachi Mela at Assam's famous Kamakhya Temple commenced on June 22 with devotees permitted to take part in it after a gap of two years owing to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In addition to it, the administration and the temple authorities have imposed certain restrictions during the Ambubachi so as to ensure that Covid-19 cases do not surge.

Meanwhile, the Assam Tourism Minister said that the VIP culture will not be allowed this time and everyone will be treated in the same way. 

Pilgrims will not be permitted to take vehicles beyond the main entrance of the Kamakhya temple.

No camp will be there on the premises of the temple for the pilgrims but camps will only be set up for the police.

Cultural events of any kind will not be allowed to take place during the Ambubachi Mela and no pass will be provided for the vehicles, thereby doing away with the VIP culture.

The temple authorities went on to inform that no provisions of food and lodging will be there this time for the pilgrims who will come from other states.

It further informed that the temporary stalls will remain closed in the Nilachal Hills during the four days of the Mela.
