Guwahati Crime Branch Seizes Rs 36 Lakh Worth of Gold Biscuits

Initial reports indicate that the smugglers purchased the gold biscuits with the intention of delivering them to a shop at a market complex in the Lakhtokia neighbourhood, according to sources.

GUWAHATI: During a city-wide operation, the Guwahati Crime Branch on Wednesday afternoon confiscated a sizable amount of gold biscuits from the Fancy Bazar neighbourhood.

Crime Branch set up a trap and nabbed three smugglers when they came to deliver the gold to a gold dealer in Lakhtokia.

While they were supplying the gold to a business, the criminal branch detained three smugglers in connection with the confiscation.

Initial reports indicate that the smugglers purchased the gold cookies with the intention of delivering them to a shop in a market complex in the Lakhtokia neighbourhood, according to sources.

The seized gold pieces are thought to have a market worth of around Rs. 36 lakhs.

After confiscating a sizable amount of gold biscuits, the criminal branch is still active in the city, looking for more such cases.

A man from Rajasthan was recently detained at the Guwahati Railway Station after being found in possession of gold biscuits. Revti Raman Soni, a native of Bikaner in Rajasthan, was named as the alleged gold smuggler.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) started an operation after receiving precise information, and the suspect was captured with a kilogramme or so of gold cookies.

Recently, a shipment of fake gold products was confiscated in Guwahati by the Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Garchuk Police.

At Boragaon, six boat-shaped gold bullions were apprehended as a result of a joint operation. Due to the seizure, two people were detained.

The fake gold products were being brought into Guwahati illegally from Lakhimpur. Police recognised and apprehended Babul Hussain for smuggling the fake gold goods based on particular information.

Later, when he disclosed the identity of another person involved in the smuggling of gold, he was questioned by police about the incident. Manoj Das was apprehended by police after making a confession.

Police discovered another fake gold boat that Das had in his hands while Hussain was carrying five.

After being questioned, the culprits revealed that they wanted to smuggle the fake gold products into states other than Assam.
