GUWAHATI: A fiery dispute occurred at a hotel when a customer discovered a dead lizard in the rice thali he had ordered. This incident took place on Monday night at the Maa Kali Hotel in Paltan Bazar.
As per reports, the customer in question hailed from Silchar and had visited the hotel for dinner. While several other people were taking their meals at the same time here, the shocking discovery of the dead animal in this customer's food led to a heated altercation with the staff members.
Later on, the angry customer lodged a formal complaint at the Paltan Bazar Police Station, accusing the hotel of breaching hygiene standards and jeopardizing public health. The incident has drawn attention to the importance of maintaining food safety and sanitation in eateries.
Meanwhile in other city news, in a heartbreaking development, a youth lost his life after falling into an uncovered pit dug for water supplies. The incident took place in the Hengrabari locality of the city on Thursday, and he passed away on Saturday due to the injuries sustained during the incident.
According to local sources, a youth named Mantu Deka fell into a pit dug under the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)-funded projects while walking back home on Thursday night. He was shifted to a medical facility for treatment of the injuries sustained in the accident. He later succumbed to his injuries on Saturday. It should be noted that this is not the first time that someone has lost his life due to negligence on the part of the concerned officials. A few months ago, a schoolgirl came under a school bus for the same reason.
Several major and minor accidents in different parts of the city have been caused by negligence. Similarly, an East Guwahati Police District team from Jorabat outpost under Basistha Police Station rescued 21 heads of cattle while nabbing one person in connection with the case.
