Guwahati: Mutilated Dead Body Recovered From a Drain

Injury marks were noticed on the face and neck of the dead body, but the identity of the victim could not be ascertained.

GUWAHATI: A mutilated dead body was recovered from a drain in the Chandmari locality of Guwahati on Saturday. The dead body was found in a sack but the identity has not been known.

According to sources, the dead body was recovered from a drain near the Assam Engineering Institute located in Chandmari. Injury marks were noticed on the face and neck of the dead body, but the identity of the victim could not be ascertained.

Previously, the discovery of a dead body on the banks of the Brahmaputra at Uzanbazar in the city had shocked the local residents in the area. According to sources, the body was that of an as-yet-unidentified man whose age was estimated to be around 35 years. Local residents discovered the dead body on the muddy banks of the river. They informed the Latasil police about the corpse. The dead body was recovered and sent for post-mortem. It could not be ascertained whether the man had drowned in the river. The police said that the reason for death could be determined only after the post-mortem report arrived. Meanwhile, the Latasil police are focusing their efforts on trying to identify the dead man.

A similar incident had taken place a few days back in Biswanath when the recovery of a dead body triggered panic among the residents of the Biswanath region of the state. The body was later identified as that of a local person who had gone missing a few days back. In a disturbing development, the local people of the Bamgaon village in Ward Number 8 noticed a dead body floating on the river. On proper checking, it was found that the body belonged to one Bhola Bora, aged 60 years and belonging to the same village.
