GUWAHATI: In a major breakthrough made in the shocking incident of kidnap and murder of a 10th standard student, Guwahati Police arrested the prime accused on Wednesday night, said reports that emerged on Thursday.
The reports said that one Abhishek Baruah was arrested by the police in connection with the sensational incident.
It has emerged that the prime accused in the kidnap and murder case, is a street-side vendor in Guwahati’s Hatigaon locality, officials informed.
The boy, identified as Nitish Kumar, a 10th class student at Maharishi Vidya Mandir, was kidnapped on Tuesday. His body was found in the city’s Bonda area on Wednesday.
The minor boy, a resident of Hatigaon, was reportedly kidnapped from the locality on Tuesday by the accused Abhishek Baruah, who reportedly took him to Bonda, on the outskirts of Guwahati.
Police officials informed that the body of the deceased boy was found deep in the forest area in a half-undressed state. The police are suspecting that the boy was stabbed to death and his body was disposed off in the remote area.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that the accused, who is said to run a shop in the Hatigaon area, was allegedly known to the victim, also a resident of the same area, for some time now.
After kidnapping the boy, Abhishek is alleged to have demanded a ransom of Rs 7 lakhs for his release, informed officials. However, late at night on Wednesday, the body of the victim was recovered from Bonda.
After the recovery of the body, the police launched an operation and arrested the prime accused Abhishek Baruah last night itself. The Crime Branch of Guwahati Police also reached Hatigaon late last night, where the team then engaged in reconstructing the crime scene.
On the body of the abducted student Nitish Kumar of Guwahati’s Hatigaon was recovered under mysterious circumstances in Bonda locality on Wednesday, police investigated the case and came to know about the involvement of the accused.
After the city police detained Abhishesk Baruah in connection with the case, they are also on the lookout for other suspects who may be responsible for the kidnapping.
