GUWAHATI: In a recent incident, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) detained seven people on Sunday, January 15, 2023, among them an Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) assigned to Guwahati in connection with an alleged 50 lakh bribe from a local Hawala operator.
In a previous statement, the Central Investigation Agency said that a case had been opened against Additional DRM (Divisional Railway Manager), Jitendra Pal Singh, and others over claims that Singh had shown unjustifiable favour to private contractors in exchange for payment.
It was claimed that the defendants conspired to give preferential treatment to private contractors in exchange for the early release of security deposits and bank guarantees, as well as for the early preparation of measurement books, processing of running account bills, and payments for ongoing construction work on the North East Frontier Railway, according to the CBI statement released on Sunday.
The CBI took action in response to a complaint after setting up a trap and catching a friend of ADRM, Guwahati when they were taking a 250 Lakh bribe from the accused, Jitendra Pal Singh, given through a "Hawala Channel."
The other suspects who have been detained are Sanjeet Ray, Dilawar Khan, Hari Om, Yogendra Kumar Singh, Dilawar Khan, the contractor Shyamal Kumar Deb, the acquaintance Hari Om's driver Yogendra Kumar Singh, the owner of the Hawala business Vinod Kumar Singhal, and the suspect Jitendra Pal Singh (Hawala Cashier).
Searches at ADRM and other places, including Delhi, Narora, Guwahati, Siliguri, and Aligarh, according to the CBI, resulted in the discovery of 47 lakh rupees in cash, laptops, and several incriminating papers. According to the CBI's statement, all those detained will be brought before the appropriate court.
