GUWAHATI: The flyover near Arya Vidyapeeth College which has been in construction since the pandemic will be open for commuters soon before the India-South Africa T20 match which is to be played in Barsapara Cricket Stadium on 2nd October in Guwahati.
The chief minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma in a statement said, "We have decided to quicken the construction activities and the flyover will be ready for the public before the India-South Africa T20 match which is to be played in Barsapara Stadium".
He also added, "This decision was taken so as to avoid any traffic jams as many people would be rushing to the stadium to witness a cricket spectacle after like 2 years".
According to an official, the two teams will be arriving in the city on 29th September.
Notably, the cricket fans in Assam went home with a heavy heart after rain played spoilsport two years ago in Barsapara when India was to take on Sri Lanka in a T20 encounter on January 5, 2020.
The cricket fans would be hoping that nothing of that sort happens this time and they get to witness a rain of sixes and four rather than the actual rain.
The tickets for the match went on live on 16th September when 15000 tickets were distributed among the cricket fans in Guwahati.
Another 5000 tickets will be made live on the 26th of September.
The tickets can be bought from the Bookmyshow website or they can download the Bookmyshow app from their AppStore or Playstore.
Barsapara Stadium which is also known as Bhupen Hazarika International Cricket Stadium has hosted only five international matches with one being washed out until now and the encounter on 2nd October between India and South Africa will be its 6th International match.
The stadium has an official seating capacity of 45000.
