GUWAHATI: In a major breakthrough, the Special Task Force (STF) in Guwahati carried out a decisive operation that led to the dismantling of a notorious fake currency racket operating in the city. At a press conference held on Tuesday, the STF announced the arrest of two key individuals, Imdadur Rahman and Rubul Ali, who were involved in producing and circulating counterfeit currency. The covert raid was a result of meticulous planning and intelligence gathering, which ultimately brought an end to the counterfeit note cycle that had been causing widespread concern in the region.
The STF's operation not only led to the apprehension of the culprits but also resulted in the seizure of a sophisticated machine used for printing fake currency. The machine was the primary tool that enabled Rahman and Ali to produce counterfeit notes that closely resembled genuine currency, thereby undermining the trust in the financial system and adversely affecting the local economy.
During the raid, the STF managed to confiscate a staggering amount of fake currency, totaling Rs 72,000. This discovery has sent shockwaves throughout the city, as the extent of the counterfeit notes in circulation became apparent. The large volume of counterfeit currency being distributed posed a significant threat to the stability of the local economy and prompted authorities to take immediate action to put an end to this illegal operation.
This is not the first instance of fake currency being uncovered in the region. Earlier, on June 17, another individual named Jiyawur Rahman was arrested in Assam's Jorabat with a massive cache of counterfeit Indian currency notes. The seizure amounted to a whopping Rs 24,50,000 in fake notes of 500 denominations. Rahman was caught in a police trap as he attempted to exchange the counterfeit notes for genuine money in Jorabat, after having traveled from Lakhimpur district's Laluk area.
These incidents highlight the pressing need for vigilant efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat the circulation of counterfeit currency, which not only poses a direct threat to the financial integrity of the nation but also erodes public confidence in the currency and financial institutions.
The STF's success in busting the Guwahati fake currency racket is a testament to the dedication and perseverance of the law enforcement officers involved in the operation. Their unwavering commitment to upholding the law and preserving the sanctity of the financial system has undoubtedly dealt a severe blow to the nefarious activities of counterfeiters in the region.
The apprehension of Imdadur Rahman and Rubul Ali and the seizure of the counterfeit currency printing machine mark a significant milestone in the fight against fake currency in Guwahati. The STF's decisive action has not only put an end to a major counterfeit operation but has also sent a strong message to potential offenders that illegal activities will not go unpunished. As authorities continue to remain vigilant against such illicit practices, the public can take solace in knowing that their financial interests and trust in the system are being safeguarded.
