GUWAHATI: The four-day Entrepreneurship and Rural Development Conclave (ERDC) 2024, organized in partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Ropar and the Entrepreneurship and Rural Development Centre, was recently concluded by the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati. The primary objective behind hosting this event on IIT Guwahati's campus was to encourage rural development through starting entrepreneurial ventures within rural areas.
In promoting rural development, ERDC Guwahati 2024 served as a crucial platform that united essential stakeholders, experts and enthusiasts to discuss ways of initiating influential entrepreneurship projects in the hinterlands. The event notably featured Gulab Chand Kataria, Assam's governor who personally opened the inaugural session thereby emphasizing the conclave's importance in locally-driven progress.
The event saw a number of noteworthy personalities in attendance, among them were Lakhan Lal Meena, the Officer from Guwahati; Chetan Sahore, Head of ERDC; and Dr. Dibyajyoti Mahanta – President of Vidya Bharti Assam. Their combined experience and dedication highlighted their mutual goal to promote entrepreneurship and rural improvement within the region.
Prof Rajeev Ahuja, Officiating Director of IIT Guwahati laid emphasis on the institute's goals to promote entrepreneurship and rural development in Northeast India during his introductory speech. He further enumerated their dedication towards supporting students as well as young farmers. The institution strives to fulfill its social responsibility by contributing constructively towards uplifting the nation and ultimately progressing a 'Viksit Bharat' or Developed India.
The approach taken by IIT Guwahati to reach their objectives, as noted by Prof Ahuja, centers on ventures like Research Parks and Incubation Centers. The aim of these endeavors is to promote a foundation in fundamental science among scholars so that India becomes the trailblazing country for innovation. Engendering an atmosphere supportive of creative thinking and business inception are key tenets guiding the institute towards comprehensive development within its vicinity.
To sum up, ERDC Guwahati 2024 served as a forum for the unification of ideas, cultivation of partnerships and establishment of an aggregate pledge towards enhancing rural development. With the seal-of-approval from the Governor and representation from notable personalities in attendance, this meeting marked a noteworthy progression towards achieving IIT Guwahati's aspiration to bring about entrepreneurship and improve living standards in Northeast through rural empowerment.
