HAILAKANDI: Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner Megh Nidhi Dahal visited flood prone sites to take stock of the flood protection measures being taken by the Water Resources department on Wednesday.

He was accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner cum CEO, DDMA, RK Dam, Executive Engineer, Water Resources department, Hailakandi Division, R. Haque and other officials. Dahal inspected the NABARD project at Dolidor area and SDRF project at Mohanpur.

The Deputy Commissioner said that all vulnerable spots, including breaches must be completed at the earliest. He also asked the officials to keep equipment ready to tackle eventuality of floods.

Meanwhile, in view of heavy to very heavy rainfall forecast by the Regional Meteorological Centre for the next five days beginning Wednesday, the district administration has asked the Circle Officers, line departments, Bipod Bahini of Fire and Emergency Services, Pratirodhi Bandhus of DDMA, Village Defence Parties and police personnel to be on high alert.

Fire Station Officer, Albert I Khobung said that two IRB boats are on standby mode to meet any exigency. "Right now we have two IRB boats, and, if required, two IRB or FRB boats from Silchar or Karimganj F&ESS will be requisitioned in the event of severe flood here," said Khobung.
