Hailakandi district administration gears up for enrollment of new voters

Tribal voter registration programme was organized by Electoral Registration Office, Katlicherra in collaboration with the District Election Office

HAILAKANDI: Tribal voter registration programme was organized by Electoral Registration Office, Katlicherra in collaboration with the District Election Office, Hailakandi at Forest Range Office, Ramnathpur in view of Special Summary Revision, 2021 here on Saturday.

Around 200 people from flung villages like Gutguti, Riflemara, Jhalnacherra and Dhamcherra turned up for registration and most of them are first time voters. "Lot of enthusiasm and excitement was seen among the youths for being able to enroll and embark on a greatest trip as a citizen," said Assistant Commissioner, Parikshit Phukan.

"Most of these voters who have been newly enrolled are vibrant, energetic and enthusiastic youths who, we believe, will cast their votes for their first time. Hence, this will surely add to the percentage of voter turnout in the district in the upcoming Assembly elections," quipped Phukan. The district administration has geared up to enrol voters who have attained 18 years of age and publicity campaigns are on to create awareness through use of social media and other digital platforms. Officials have fanned out to different parts of the district to enrol new voters.

"Participating in the democratic process is a fundamental right of every Indian citizen, and ensures that you have a say in how India is governed," added Phukan.
