Hailakandi Rural and Panchayat department staff dismissed for asking bribe

SILCHAR: Ali Ahmed Barbhuiyan, a Gram Rozgar Sahayak (GRS) of Hailakandi Rural and Panchayat department had been dismissed on Friday for corrupt practice. In a video clipping, doing rounds in social media, Barbhuiyan, a contractual staff, working at Chiporsangonb GP under Algapur Block Development Office, was seen bargaining with a job card beneficiary. He was seen asking the beneficiary to pay him Rs 11 thousand for making the job card. Barbhuiyan was also seen boldly declaring that he used to take bribe openly.

Algapur BDO Samujjwal Jyoti Gogoi had reportedly informed the incident to his higher authorities and on Friday, Bikram Koiri, the Commissioner of the Panchayat and Rural Development department had dismissed Barbhuiyan. Koiri in his order mentioned that the contract with Barbhuiyan was hereby terminated and his service was no longer required. However he would be given his one month remuneration.
