JORHAT: Crime is on the rise in Jorhat and its outskirts. On Wednesday, two youths followed a female assistant professor from the Jorhat Engineering College (JEC) Road at Goromur till Tarajan AT Road and snatched her handbag when she was on a three-wheeler vehicle after attending college.
The two motorcycle-borne youths were travelling in the same direction and snatched the handbag from the female teacher. They then fled the scene. The victim later filed a complaint at the Pulibor Outpost and police investigation is on.
When contacted, the Officer in-charge of Jorhat Sadar Police Station said that four youths from Jharkhand who was operating in Jorhat were held by police on Monday and over 26 stolen mobile handsets worth over Rs 5 lakh were recovered from a rented house in the Rajamaidam area.
