Handicraft and handlooms exhibition gets underway in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR: An exhibition of handicrafts and handlooms is being organized in the premises of Joonskaya and Rudra Singha Resort from Friday under the initiative of North East Development Forum (NEDF), a non-governmental organization of the historic Rudrasagar, Bhatiapar, in collaboration with the Ministry of Handloom & Textiles and Culture, Government of India.

The exhibition gate of Rudra Singha Resort was inaugurated by Sanjit Saikia, an official of the department of Sericulture. On the inaugural function, Gaurisagar Development Block Officer Pankaj Hazarika, Bank Officer Nabajyoti Gogoi, Sanjit Kumar, Kavita Shiktia, Journalist Najiullah Hazarika and Rupam Bezbaruah delivered congratulatory speeches.

The performance of Dihanaam by Bishnupriya Women Troupe and Bihu dance by Parishmita Gogoi added to the grandeur of the event which was hosted by NEDF secretary Priyam Hazarika and Popi Das.

Meanwhile, Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Aditya Vikram Yadav opened the Joonskaya Exhibition Gate in the afternoon., where sculptor Durlav Bora lit the ceremonial lamp. In his inaugural address, the Deputy Commissioner highly appreciated the entrepreneur and hoped that the handicrafts and handloom products shown in the exhibition would capture a huge market.

Several eminent personalities including Indira Devi, Banti Bhuyan, Prashanta Dutta, Premada Hazarika, Hariprasanna Hazarika, including sculptor Durlav Bora were present on the occasion as special guests.

At the venue of the exhibition, 715 men and women trained in 16 villages of Rudra Singha Anchalik Panchayat, under the supervision of NEDF, displayed more than three hundred products made from 'meteka loom' and 'tat loom'. The sight of each one showing how they prepare the products at the exhibition venue left everyone spellbound.
