MORIGAON: Sensation prevailed in Morigaon following the fraudulent withdrawal of money of the School Managing Committee (SMC) of Dandua MV School in the name of lifting ration for mid-day meal. The matter came to light after a written complaint lodged by a retired teacher, Lakhit Deka, who is the president of the School Managing Committee (SMC) of the school with the Inspector of Schools, Morigaon, Buli Gogoi Bhuyan on May 22, 2022 last.

In the written statement, the president of the SMC said that in the name of lifting ration for mid-day meal, the head teacher of the school, Suprakash Nath fraudulently withdrew money by drawing a cheque (No.030897) vide A/C No.7271010038377) of Rs 1,20,000 at Jaluguti Gramin Vikash Bank on May 31,2022. It is alleged that the president of the SMC had signed the cheque for an amount of Rs 20,000 onl, but head teacher Suprakash Nath changed the amount to 1,20,000.

Deka further alleged that Suprakash Nath obtained the former's signature on the cheque on May 23, 2022 and mysteriously drew the cheque of Rs 1,20,000 on May 31, 2022. Deka said that the head teacher has tried to defalcate the money by making him the scapegoat. The president of the SMC alleged that he asked the head teacher to update the passbook on June 10, 2022, but Nath told the former over mobile phone that there was little gap on the line in front of the figure of Rs 20,000 signed by him on the cheque and asked to add Rs 1,00,000 more. As the president of the SMC asked the head teacher not to do such illegal work, Nath switched off the mobile phone immediately. After the president of the SMC submitted the written report of the incident, the Inspector of Schools-cum-DEEO Buli Gogoi noticed the written report and took a photo clip of the report and accordingly she sent an inquiry team comprising four members - Manmuhan Rajbongshi (a retired teacher), Kaushik Raj Bora (DPM), Ruhini Dutta (DPO) and Rajib Kr Medhi (accountant). Now, the president of the SMC has asked the Chief Minister of Assam to intervene in the matter.
