Kokrajhar: Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday visited Chirang district to take stock of the preparedness of district administration for COVID-19. During his visit to the district, he was accompanied by Chandan Brahma, Minister, Welfare of Plains Tribe and Backward Classes and Tourism, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Pijush Hazarika, Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary and Anurag Goel, Commissioner and Secretary to the Government of Assam.
Sarma held meeting with the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police and the officials of district health department to take overall preparedness report and to review the initiatives so far being done by the district administration for treatment of the coronavirus patients.
Addressing the media, Dr Sarma said, “As of now total 5 persons are under institutional quarantine in Chirang district. Among them two have already been tested negative for coronavirus, to whom we can release today. The other three persons’ reports are yet to come by tonight. We hope that their results will also be negative and if so, we can also release them by tomorrow.”
He also informed that Chirang district had still total 1837 persons under home quarantine. “However, most of them have already passed 14 and 28 days period for showing corona symptoms,” he added.
Earlier, the minister visited quarantine centers located at Srirampur Forest Guest House, Telipara Adivasi Swahid Bhawan and Daoliguri Orphanage home and Fakiragram College in Kokrajhar district to understand the health conditions and other problems of those people who were presently under home quarantine there.
Among others, BTC Deputy Chief Kampa Borgayari, Principal Secretary Robinson Muchahary, IGP Anurag Agarwal, Gautam Talukdar, Deputy Commissioner, Chirang and Sudhakar Singh, Superintendent of Police, Chirang also present in programme.
