MANGALDAI: "As a student of History, which is my favourite subject, I feel immense pleasure to join as the first lady Deputy Commissioner of Darrang district. This district is highly enriched with its historical legacy, including the unprecedented peasant uprising at Pothorughat on January 28, 1894 where 140 rural farmers offered supreme sacrifice at the trigger-happy hands of the British. It is also a highly privileged moment for me to spend my days in Darrang in the heritage official bungalow where the legendary historian Sir Edward Gait spent his days as the Subdivisional Officer during the British rule and authored the highly valuable book A History of Assam," said Prabhati Thaosen while interacting with media persons for the first timely after taking over as the 28th Deputy Commissioner of Darrang district, in the conference hall of the DC's office on Thursday.

Addressing the mediapersons, Prabhati Thaosen also spoke about her vision and mission towards the all-round development of the district which has been enlisted in the list of aspirational districts. "My priority will be on health sector in view of the prevailing situation arising out of COVID-19 and on the flood situation," said Deputy Commissioner Prabhati Thaosen. She also gave a patient hearing to the suggestions offered by the media persons on various key issues related to the development of the district.

Mediapersons coming from different areas of the district earlier extended a hearty welcome to the newly-joined Deputy Commissioner. Additional Deputy Commissioners Pankaj Deka and Sanjeev Bora and DIPRO Ayan Hazarika also accompanied the Deputy Commissioner in her first interaction with the media.
