Heavy storm uproots trees and electric poles in Dibrugarh

Heavy hailstorms as well as wind storms caused extensive damage at various places in and around Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH: Heavy hailstorms as well as wind storms caused extensive damage at various places in and around Dibrugarh on Monday. According to sources, the big trees and electric poles were uprooted in AMCH road after heavy hailstorm as well as wind storm lashed several areas in Dibrugarh. The officials of Dibrugarh district administration rushed to the affected areas to take stock of the situations.

As large trees were uprooted and fell on the electric cables, electricity has been cut off in numerous locations in Dibrugarh. In many areas the electric poles were also damaged due to to the storm.

Dibrugarh Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu said, “Many electric poles and trees were uprooted due to the heavy storm in AMCH road. Our team has rushed to the place to enquire the damage.”

Sources said that many small shops in front of AMCH road were damaged due to the heavy storm. Moran MLA Chakradhar Gogoi’s wife luckily escaped from being crushed from a fallen tree. She was on her way to AMCH in her car.
