DHUBRI: A Heritage Walk titled ‘Discover the Legacy of Dhubri Town’, was conducted recently by India Heritage Walks in collaboration with District Museum Dhubri recently. The Heritage Walk, which was initially started to generate general awareness about the historical importance of the town among the people of the town as well among the outsiders, now, turns out to be regular feature. The recent one was the 6th Heritage Walk organized so far in a short span of 10 months. The Heritage Walk has received an overwhelming response from the locals of Dhubri and every time a mixed group, including students, businessmen and academicians join in the walk, informed District Museum Officer Mrinmoy Das,.

Talking to The Sentinel, Das said, “We have remained successful with our objective and this can be understood from the positive response and support we have received so far from Bijoy Kumar Sharma who led the walk.” Das further informed that they were planning another cultural walk by mid-July in the abandoned WIMCO (match factory) of Dhubri.

Das said that over the years, this place had attracted many writers, columnists, social workers and politicians for trade and commerce. With the establishment of the match factory by the British, a trade of workers from regions such as Bihar and West Bengal took place followed by a subsequent change in the cultural practices in Dhubri town, Das added.

“A cultural walk will be able to highlight and open up an entire chapter for better understanding of cultural significance and its relation to commerce and trade,” added Das. Sharma said that with the collaboration with India Heritage Walks, the heritage of Dhubri town had been recognized in a national platform today. “This national recognition will help in taking the town’s rich heritage wide and far,” Sharma added. The recently held Heritage Walk of Dhubri Town covered 13 points including historic buildings and places of worship.
