BOKAJAN: Police in Karbi Anglong district recovered 1.1 kg of Heroin from No. 2 Nambor Forest Bridge under Barpathar police station at around 2 pm on Monday. The value of the seized consignment is expected to be Rs 6 crore. Based on specified intelligence inputs, a team of police led by Bokajan SDPO John Das set up a special Naka at No 2 Nambor Forest Bridge under Barpathar police station. “The police team intercepted an Ertiga vehicle bearing registration no AS03T2397 and on being thorough search, 89 soap boxes of heroin containing 1.104 kg were recovered from the vehicle. The consignment was concealed in the door panel of the vehicle,” said a senior police official.
The driver of the vehicle Paresh Mallik (49), son of late Manindra Mallik of Kachalukhowa village under Nagaon Sadar Police Station was arrested in this connection. The consignment was brought from Dimapur to hand it over to a certain person in Assam. Despite intensified security dragnet, Bokajan has been a transit route for narcotic drugs and other smuggling goods over the years.
In their continued drive against narcotic drugs and other smuggled goods, the Karbi Anglong police have seized more than 100 kg of narcotic substances and arrested more than 100 people.
