Heroin worth Rs 6 lakh seized, two arrested in Naharkatia

NAHARKATIA: Naharkatia Police seized a truck carrying LPG cylinders in Naharkatia on Saturday.

In the truck bearing registration number AS-19-C-7381, around 33 grams of heroin worth about Rs 6 lakh was very cleverly tied and hidden in the cylinders. Based on information and instruction from Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police P PrateekThube, a police team of DibrugarhGabharupather Outpost chased the truck from Dibrugarh. Information was obtained that drugs were being smuggled from Dimapur.

A police team from Naharkatia Police Station led by OC BhaskarSaikia, in a joint operation with Dibrugarh Police, seized the LPG cylinder-carrying vehicle. A case has been registered vide case number 192/2020 u/s 279 IPC, r/w sec 21(c)NDPS Act and the driver and helper of the truck, Satyajit Moran and Prahlad Borah were arrested by Naharkatia Police.

Namrup DSP Kula Pradip Bhattacharya said that investigation was on and very soon they would be able to bust the racket.
