Himanta Biswa Sarma announces 2 more COVID-19 deaths, toll reaches 48

Guwahati: Two more persons from Assam (one from Kamrup (Metro) and one from Tinsukia) have succumbed to death after they contracted the dreaded COVID-19 virus on Wednesday, July 15. The Death Audit Board of Assam has confirmed that they have indeed died from the respiratory illness.

"Very sad to share that Smt Hira Devi (45) from Kamrup Metro and Dr. Pradip Kumar Sharma (75) from Tinsukia succumbed to COVID-19 today, as per the report of Death Audit Board of Assam", health and family welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote on a tweet.

This number is 4 less than the number of casualties that were recorded on Tuesday, July 14.  "We lost Ms Sneha Mall (36), Sri Litu Kumar Bora (37), Sri Sarat Ch Saharia (60), Sri Upendra Nath (62), Sri Pramod Ranjan Saha (73) & Sri Subhakaran Dudheria (73) today. They succumbed to #COVID19 as per Death Audit Board report. My prayers, and condolences to the families", Sarma wrote on Twitter yesterday, confirming the 6 COVID-19 deaths.

Earlier today, Sarma held a Video Conference with DCs, Medical Superintendents, and Doctors in Assam to review and discuss the current situation of COVID-19. The officials analyzed the threat perception and discussed if the containment measures are being adhered to in the right spirit.

The Assam Government has been stepping up measures to contain the spread of the COVID-19 amid a boom in the number of cases --many of which have been reported at the community level. Many of the COVID-19 cases have been reported at the community level, setting the alarm bells ringing.
