Himanta Biswa Sarma Announces Projects Worth More Than Rs 850 Cr for Jorhat

A 100-bigha park, which will be the largest in the state of Assam will come up in Jorhat

JORHAT: As a part of the ongoing Fortnight for Development by the Government of Assam, Assam's chief minister is in the Jorhat district of Assam. He announced projects worth a total of Rs 850 Crs across the district.

The first of the projects undertaken is a memorial for Lachit Barphukan at his Maidam or grave. The locality will be developed into a significant tourist destination of the region. It will also include the development of roads leading to the location.

Development of the roads connecting Jorhat to Golaghat and including key establishments of the region into a special economic corridor in the lines of National Highways has been announced. These will connect the Jorhat Medical College Hospital, Rowriah Airport, Assam Agriculture University and several other institutions and commercial hubs. A flyover will also be created on the way to the Jorhat Medical College to ease the traffic woes.

Jorhat Stadium will now be upgraded to a major project along the lines of the Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. It will spread across 90 bighas of land in the heart of the city as the existing DC Office will be relocated and part of the establishment will be converted into a museum to showcase the history of the district. Another new mini-stadium project has been announced in the Mariani region.

The land has been allocated along with funds to create infrastructure for the Assam Women's University. New buildings to accommodate classrooms, offices, hostels and other necessary infrastructure will be created here. Upgradation of the sericulture research centre has also been announced.

The existing Jorhat Jail facility will be moved to a new location in the district. Part of it will be developed into a 100-bigha park, which will be the largest in the state of Assam. The other part of the space will be converted into a heritage centre and memorial for the freedom fighters of the region. Objects of historical and religious importance from the entire region will be preserved and showcased here.

To develop the electricity distribution in the region and nearby areas, the state government will also set up four 33 KV power supply stations in different locations of Jorhat.
