Guwahati: Senior BJP leader Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma charged the Bodoland People's Front (BPF) Chief Hagrama Mohilary for his intentional alienation from the Assam government. Sarma said that the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) is very much a part of the state. Like any other council in the state, BTC is equally answerable to the Assam government.

Sarma further said that BTC is inside Assam, not outside. For the last 15 years, BPF Chief Mohilary prohibited the other ministers of the state to enter BTC.

Sarma also complained about how BTC never let the minister inaugurate a school, which is completely constructed by the state government. He said that in other councils like Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, the state government ministers regularly visit and interact. However, this is not the case with BTC.

In BTC, the ministers of the Assam government are mostly put in a room and are sent away without letting them interact with the public.

These comments by Sarma came ahead of the BTC Elections, 2020.

The elections are scheduled in the month of December.

The elections will take place in two phases, on December 7 and December 10. The counting of the votes will take place on December 12.

BJP is ready to contest in all the 12 seats of BTC elections. They are determined to win all of them. On the other hand, Mohillary too has been confident about winning the BTC polls. Hangrama's BPF is, however, the largest political party in BTAD. In the 2016 polls, BJP and BPF formed the alliance.
