Himanta Biswa Sarma hands over the prestigious literary and cultural award

KOKRAJHAR: State Finance Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, who attended the closing ceremony of the 1st BTR Accord Day held at Ambagaon HS School playground in Udalguri district, handed over the prestigious Promod Chandra Brahma Literary Award, 2021 to noted writer and Sahitya Akademi award winner as well as retired Principal of Kokrajhar Government College, Surath Narzary and the Jwhwlao Nileswar Brahma Cultural Award, 2021 to renowned singer Arun Narzary.

Noted writer and academician Surath Narzary received the BTC's prestigious literary award from the minister in a grand closing ceremony of BTR Accord Day in presence of CEM of BTR, Pramod Boro, MP Dilip Saikia and other dignitaries. Meanwhile, Argeng Narzary, son of renowned singer Arun Narzary, received the cultural award from the minister on behalf of his father as Narzary is unwell. The minister felicitated both the recipients of the award with traditional Aronai and handed over the cheque of Rs. 2 lakh each, citation and memento. The awards are given to individuals having outstanding contribution in the field of literature and culture. The awards will be given by the BTC authority on every accord day celebration.

Noted writer and educationist Surath Narzary has many books to his credit and has made significant contribution to the society while renowned singer Arun Narzary, who was also the former president of Dularai Boro Harimu Afad (DBHA), a cultural organization of the Bodos, came to the limelight after the release of the first Bodo feature film Alayaron (The Dawn), directed by Jwngdao Bodosa in 1986. Narzary was the male singer in the national award winning film.
