Minister announces peace accord with five militant groups of Karbi Anglong

BOKAJAN: Ahead of the State Assembly Election, 2021, State Finance Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday arrived in Bokajan to perform bhumi pujan ceremony for construction of a 100-bedded rural hospital and inauguration of several other developmental projects, followed by a public rally at CCI playground in Bokajan.

The minister also attended the inaugural ceremony of 'Pranabananda Centenary Building' in Pranab Vidyapith School in Bokajan to commemorate the 125 birth anniversary of Srimat Swami Pranabanandaji Maharaj - the founder of Bharat Sevashram Sangh.

Later, the minister inaugurated an Inspection Bungalow (IB) in Nizorapar, Bokajan followed by the inauguration of a Mini Stadium, Auditorium and Indoor Stadium constructed under Finance Minister Special Package at an estimated cost of Rs 10 crore at CCI playground in Bokajan.

Addressing the gathering, the minister said, "Today is a very significant day for the people of Bokajan. This 100-bedded hospital have been my long cherished wish for the people of Bokajan. All modern facilities, including operation theatre, kidney dialysis, Intensive Care Unit and others, will be available in this hospital. In the last five years, Karbi Anglong has witnessed a major uplift in terms of education and health care facilities. The Diphu Medical College was once a dream and today it has started functioning with 100 medical students and 500 beds to cater to the medical needs of the people living in Karbi Anglong."

"Earlier, it was my wish to establish a cancer hospital in Karbi Anglong and today works are on to resurrect the old Diphu Civil Hospital as a full-fledged cancer hospital by August 15, 2021. With all facilities of radiation, surgery and medication, Karbi Anglong's journey towards better health care facilities will receive a new beginning," the minister added.

The minister further added, "Peace and development in Karbi Anglong has remained a priority of the BJP government and we are committed to bring peace and communal harmony in Karbi Anglong. Today, I feel proud that all ethnic militant groups of Karbi Anglong have laid down arms in Guwahati and have returned to the mainstream. Furthermore, on February 25, Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive at Dengaon in Karbi Anglong and sign a new Peace Accord with the militants for the development of Karbi Anglong. This new Peace Accord will pave way for development in Karbi Anglong in terms of education, healthcare and the long-pending border issue will also receive utmost importance."
