Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma decided to travel in a helicopter to cover just 5 km distance from Tezpur airport to Sonitpur district on Saturday.
He was there to attend a function at Ghoramari organized in honour of Late Rajen Borthakur - BJP MLA from Rongapara Assembly constituency who died on December 10.
Anti-CAA agitators and members of AASU blocked National Highway 15 between Tezpur and Ghoramari to oppose the visit of the minister. They also shouted slogans against the citizenship amended act.
Sarma then took a 5 km helicopter ride to arrive at the venue.
Protesters waved black flags and shouted slogans at some BJP MLAs who were passing through the area to attend the event.
